The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is offering another incentive for suburbanites to discover downtown this summer: an urban drive-in.
Dubbed the Downtown Drive-In, Winnipeggers can walk, bike or drive a vehicle to the Cityplace surface parking lot behind the MTS Centre bordered by Carlton Street, Graham Avenue and Hargave Street, every Saturday in August to catch a flick. It will cost $10 to reserve a parking spot for a vehicle, while walkers and cyclists get in free.
The Saturday movies will feature some of the greatest heroes of all time. On Aug. 9, The Dark Knight will kick off the series, followed by Zoolander and The Avengers in the following weeks. On Aug. 30, viewers can vote on the final film screening— either The Matrix or Terminator 2.
Popcorn will definitely be on sale, as it should be at any classic drive-in, said BIZ spokeswoman, Signy Gerrard.
The drive-in is working to secure partnerships with restaurants in the surrounding area, too, to provide extra deals on eats and treats. The restaurant partnerships will be posted on the BIZ’s website in the coming weeks, said Gerrard.
