Compost bins, rain barrels on sale Saturday

The City of Winnipeg is sponsoring a one-day compost bin sale.

On Saturday, Winnipeggers can buy an Earth Machine compost bin for $30, and a rain barrel for $50.

The sale will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Kingsbury Avenue behind Canadian Tire, St. James Street across from the Bay at Polo Park Shopping Centre, Toys R Us parking lot on Regent Avenue West, and St. Vital Centennial Arena.

Composting experts will be on hand to answer questions.

More than 43,000 compost bins have been sold since Winnipeg started its annual sale in 2002. Each bin can prevent 100 kilograms of organics from heading to landfill every year.

Organic waste produces methane gas, which contributes to climate change.
