Those travelling to the United States via the Port of Emerson are being warned about construction underway on the U.S side of the border.
The northbound lanes of the I-29 are getting an additional lane. While construction is underway, traffic along the I-29 will be reduced to one lane, and the speed limit will also be reduced, a release from Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation stated. The province is working with the United States on the project, which will include work on the Canadian side of the border and is expected to be completed by October 2013, the release stated.
The construction is not expected to interfere with traffic on Labour Day weekend though. Pylons will be removed during those days to allow for "maximum capacity." The Canada Border Services Agency is encouraging people to use the Port of Emerson, as they say it is still the "best equipped in the area to process large volumes of traffic," the release stated.
