Council chairman wants more public input into city spending

City council’s new finance chairman wants to increase the amount of public input into the way the City of Winnipeg spends its money.

Transcona Coun. Russ Wyatt wants to expand the city’s budget-consultation process next year through the use of focus groups, polling and online input, in addition to public meetings.

Consultation for the 2014 operating and capital budgets would take place during the first six months of 2013, according to a plan approved by city council’s finance committee Monday morning.

There will not be additional consultation for the 2013 operating and capital budgets. Those budgets are nearing completion and will be tabled in January, Wyatt said.
