Child dies of injuries after head-on crash
Other child remains in critical condition

One of the two children in Tuesday night’s car crash in River Heights has died of her injuries, Winnipeg police reported Wednesday afternoon.
The child was identified as a seven-year-old girl. The other child remains in critical condition.
Winnipeg Police said investigators were still piecing together information about events that led up to the head-on collision just after 11 p.m. between a westbound SUV and an eastbound van that contained a woman and man and three young children.
Two of the children were taken to hospital in critical condition, while the woman and man and another child were in stable condition.
The male driver of the SUV was not injured.
WPS spokeswoman Patrol Sgt. Monica Stothers said speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
Residents say the corner is dangerous and a crash was inevitable.
Residents said there have been several accidents at Academy where it bends near Wilton Street, with west-bound vehicles losing control and ending up in their front yards.
"We’ve lived here three and a half years and there have been three accidents," Karen Dufault said.
Dufault said vehicles going too fast lose control at the bend, either ending up driving across her yard or crashing into property across the street.
"Cars are just going too fast and they lose control," another neighbour said. "I know this is a busy street but it’s not a highway – they come speeding around the corner and if it was wet like it was Tuesday night, they lose control and drive into somebody else or into someone else’s property."
Police are asking anyone who might have witnessed the collision to call investigators at 204-986-6271.
