Cruiser hit in traffic stop gone awry

A police cruiser was hit by another vehicle when a routine traffic stop went awry Saturday afternoon.

Officers pulled a man over at 4:25 p.m. in the 300 block of Arlington Street because his Chrysler Cirrus was being driven erratically, police said.

When one of the officers approached the vehicle, the driver allegedly reversed quickly, nearly striking the officer, and then collided with the cruiser, where a second officer was sitting, police reported.

He sped off before colliding with another vehicle just a couple of blocks away, police said.

He further tried to evade police by hiding in a parking lot in the 300 block of Burnell Street, but officers were close on his tail and arrested him, police said.

There were no injuries in any of the collisions.

Adam Michael Redcliffe was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing from a police officer, driving without a licence and failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance.
