Crusaders and Pirates to enter Bowl games as defending champions
The St. Paul's Crusaders and the Grant Park Pirates will each take the field as defending champions in their respective divisions as the 2012 Winnipeg High School Football League championship Bowl games on Thursday and Friday at Canad Inns Stadium.
The Grant Park Pirates will look to win back-to-back Free Press Bowl championships in the Vidruk AA division meeting the Kelvin Clippers, while the Crusaders will defend their title in the Potter AAA division for the ANAVETS Bowl against the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes.
"We're excited to be here and we're expecting a good battle from Miles Mac. They've moved up a division and have a player (Jayden McKoy) that is probably the best player in the league," said St. Paul's head coach Stacy Dainard.
The Bowl games will all be played at Canad Inns Stadium, the last football games to be played in the 59-year-old venue, as the new Investors Group Field is expected to be opened at the University of Manitoba campus next year.
The games will be as follows:
- Home Run Sports Bowl, junior varsity, Vincent Massey Trojans vs Oak Park Raiders,Thurs. Nov 8, 5 p.m.
- Canad Inns Bowl, Currie A division, Steinbach Sabres vs Neelin Spartans,Thurs. Nov 8th 7:30 p.m.
- Free Press Bowl, Vidruk AA division, Grant Park Pirates vs Kelvin Clippers, Fri. Nov. 9 5 p.m.
- ANAVETS Bowl, Potter AAA division, St. Paul's vs Miles Macdonell Buckeyes. Fri. Nov. 9, 7:30 p.m.
