The University of Winnipeg is looking for a few good men and women to make up their new Wesmen Dance Team.
The school announced today it will hold auditions for their dance squad on Sept. 30th and bill it as a ‘professional, competitive team providing students with high quality dance training and innovative artistic performances. It is geared towards male and female dancers who take their training seriously, value sportsmanship, and are passionate about dance. The dance team is a great opportunity for students who wish to continue their dance training beyond the studio.’
The dance squad will perform at school and sports events and compete at a national level against other universities. And since 2007 the number of events has grown dramatically at the U of W, growing from four teams to 14 with the addition of soccer, baseball and wrestling teams joining the basketball and volleyball programs.
Said Wesmen Director of Athletics Doran Reid in a press release: "Wesmen Athletics has always taken pride in the high level of first class entertainment that it provides at a Wesmen event. It is crucial that our students and fans experience a great atmosphere and a level of excitement that will keep them wanting to come back time and time again. A good dance team is an integral part of that atmosphere, not only in the performances they give but the commitment they make to the overall goals. I was very pleased when students came to us with the idea to create such a high level team. I look forward to considering them as our 15th team. They will be good ambassadors for our programs and for the University. "
The team will consist of 24 dancers who will be expected to devote at least three hours weekly to the team. The first of the annual auditions will be held on Sunday, Sept. 30th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg, Auxiliary Gym.
Dancers must be full or part-time U of Winnipeg students with valid student IDs. Pre-registration for the audition is required and for more details, check out www.wesmen.ca.
