Divers take to river in ongoing search for missing mom

Divers with the Winnipeg Police Service’s underwater search and recovery unit are in the Assiniboine River this morning, not far from the home where two children were found in critical condition Wednesday morning.

Lisa Gibson, 32, the mother of the young children, has been missing since the kids were found unresponsive in the bathtub inside the home on Coleridge Park Drive in the neighbourhood of Westwood. Anna, 2, and Nicholas, three months, were rushed to hospital but did not survive.

Police say she was the last person with the children, and is considered a "person of interest" in the case.

The children’s father, Brian, was at work at the time.

Publicly, the police have said they are searching for Lisa Gibson with the notion she is still alive, including using officers and cadets to search on the ground and by air and boat. The police dog unit has also been used.

Sources have said she had been diagnosed with postpartum depression.

It’s believed Lisa Gibson made a 911 call from her home requesting police be dispatched, and then left the Coleridge Park Drive home. There were reported sightings of her in Westwood on Wednesday morning.
