Dragon Boat Festival raises $300,000 to combat pediatric cancer

More than $300,000 has been raised to combat pediatric cancer thanks to the first FMG Dragon Boat Festival, organizers announced today.
CancerCare Manitoba Foundation and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba are the beneficiaries of the fundraising which will go to pediatric cancer programs including clinical trials.
"Everyone can feel good about the fact that every cent of this money is staying in Manitoba to help young Manitobans with cancer," CancerCare executive director Annitta Stenning said in a statement.
"We can’t thank everyone enough for their incredible hard work and determination," said Lawrence Prout, president and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
"Manitobans are renowned for their generosity. We thank all those who participated from the bottom of our hearts."
Money was raised by the 115 Dragon Boat teams which came out to paddle at the Lake Shirley Water Ski Park Sept. 7 to 9.
Meanwhile, CancerCare wants people to know there are still tickets available for the Guardian Angel Benefit for Women’s Cancer on Oct. 25, featuring guest speaker Cynthia Nixon from HBO’s Sex and the City.
