A 24-year-old man was beaten during a carjacking on Wednesday after he had pulled over to make a phone call at about 4:30 a.m. in the Maples area of Winnipeg.
The victim, who received serious upper-body injuries and was taken to hospital, told police he was sitting his car in the area of the 100-block of Marlow Court when a dark-coloured, older-model car pulled up and parked in front of him.
Two men allegedly got out and came over to the victim's car and demanded that he get out of his car. One of the suspects used an undisclosed weapon to break the passenger-side window of the car. The victim got out of the car and tried to run away. He was chased by the two suspects who caught him, knocked him down, robbed of some unidentified personal property and assaulted him in his upper body.
One suspect took off in the victim's car, a 2006 four-door silver Infinity M35 with tinted windows, a broken front passenger windown and a missing front grill. The Manitoba licence plate number is GVJ 174.
The second suspect left in the vehicle they had been driving when they arrived.
The victim was able to get to a nearby residence and call police.
Police are looking for two men who are aboriginal in appearance and in their early or mid-20s. One suspect had a heavy build while the other had a slim build. Both were wearing hoodies.
