Driver taken to hospital after train, truck collide

The driver of a heavy truck hauling potatoes was taken to hospital this afternoon after he collided with a CP Rail freight train on PR 39, about 4.6 kilometres north of Portage la Prairie.

RCMP said the collision took place just before 1 p.m. on a level crossing marked with railway crossing signs.

Police said the truck driver suffered undetermined injuries that were not life-threatening.

Diesel fuel from the truck was spilled at the scene and is being cleaned up.

The collision remains under investigation.
