Drunk intruder smashes door, apologizes

The residents of a home on Allegheny Drive got a rude awakening Saturday morning.

At about 5:45 a.m., homeowners heard their door bell ringing and someone banging loudly on the back door. They did not respond to the banging and a short time later someone smashed the back door and a window with a chair. The residents called 911 and the intruder, who police said was intoxicated, apologized for breaking in, stating that he was cold.

He left and a suspect was arrested a short time later without incident. A 33-year-old man is facing charges of break and enter and was detained in custody.
