Eight charged for drug and firearm offences in The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation

  • Print

A targeted RCMP operation has resulted in several drug charges and firearm seizures in The Pas and Opaskwayak Cree Nation during the past year.

RCMP said today that because of the "focused, intelligence-led enforcement program" they used to deal with drug and firearm offences in the community, officers charged eight people with trafficking cocaine, six with trafficking marijuana, and two with trafficking other drugs.

And RCMP said that during this past weekend alone The Pas and Opaskwayak RCMP arrested four more people with trafficking cocaine as well as charging a man with several firearms offences and seizing cocaine and several firearms.

Staff Sgt. Noel Allard, the NCO in charge of The Pas detachment, said in a statement that "the safety and wellbeing of the community are the RCMP’s ultimate goals.

"Each and every arrest, project, seizure or investigation sends a message and makes a difference in the community."
