Two people are dead and four others injured after a head-on collision on Highway 3 south of Brunkild Saturday.
RCMP Headingley Traffic Services, Carman RCMP and area EMS and firefighters responded to a three-car collision on Highway 3, approximately four kilometers south of Brunkild in the RM of Macdonald.
According to a release from RCMP Saturday night, a 22-year-old Winnipeg man was travelling northbound on Highway 3 when his vehicle drifted into the southbound lane. the vehicle he was driving sideswiped one vehicle, then collided head-on with the vehicle behind it.
The 22-year-old man and the 48-year-old man driving the vehicle struck head-on both died in the collision. RCMP identified the 48-year-old man as being from Hochfeld, Manitoba, but are not releasing the names of the deceased.
STARS personnel helped triage and treat the four people injured in the collision. "Two young children and one adult female were transported by ground ambulance to [Health Sciences Centre]. One young female adult was flown in the STARS helicopter to HSC," said a STARS spokesperson in an email. RCMP said three of the people taken to hospital, two adults and one child, were in critical condition.
This was the third automobile accident STARS attended in less than 24 hours. The first was a single-vehicle rollover north of Portage la Prairie around 3 a.m., and the second was a collision around 8 a.m. near Belmont.
Brunkild is 30 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg on Highway 3. The highway had been closed between Brunkild and Sperling, but has since been re-opened.
