Extreme wind chill today, warmer by Sunday

On Sunday, this will all seem like a bad – and bitterly cold – dream.

It will be positively balmy that day with a high of -4C but until then we’ll have to endure two more days that might have the Winnipeg Jets longing for the good old days in Atlanta.

Environment Canada issued an extreme wind chill warning last night Wednesday night that will last until this morning. A combination of cold Arctic air and northwestern winds of 15 to 25 km/h is creating wind chill values of between -40 and -45.

Yikes.

Today’s high is expected to be -22C under sunny skies. The temperature will fall to -31C tonight, again with extreme wind chill values, with Friday being a virtual carbon copy (ask your parents) of today.

Saturday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies and a high of -13C.

After Sunday’s much-needed reprieve, temperatures should return to seasonal norms in the early part of next week. The average high for this time of year is -13C.
