Fire damages apartment, closes Sargent and Balmoral streets

  • Print

A fire in an apartment suite on Sargent Avenue closed down streets with roughly a dozen emergency units but did not cause any serious injuries.

The fire, which started shortly after 2 p.m., badly damaged a second-floor suite at the Manitoba Housing apartment building at Sargent Avenue and Balmoral Street. A balcony at the rear of the building was badly charred and two windows were broken.

Fire fighters said two people were taken to hospital but only as a precaution.

At about 4 p.m., streets around Balmoral and Sargent were still blocked by police, causing some rush hour delays.
