John Taylor Collegiate will be closed Wednesday as a result of fire

Tuesday morning’s minor fire will keep John Taylor Collegiate closed again on Wednesday.

Officials expect that the school will be open for classes Thursday.

A fire in a basement storage area inside the school on Hamilton Avenue was knocked down by firefighters Tuesday morning.

The call came in around 9 a.m., and the blaze was extinguished quickly, according to reports.

All students and staff were evacuated safely, the St. James-Assiniboia School Division said in a release.

Students were taken to nearby Hedges Middle School and Buchanan School to get out of the rain.

Students leaving the school said there was smoke coming from the basement, and sprinklers inside the building were activated.
