Firefighter injured in West St. Paul blaze

A firefighter was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after battling a West St. Paul blaze on Tuesday morning.

At about 7:50 a.m., firefighters rushed to a home on Allenford Drive, where fire could be seen shooting out from the rear of one bungalow’s garage.

One firefighter sustained a leg injury while crews worked to wrestle the blaze under control. He was taken to hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.

The fire caused extensive damage to the garage and the home’s main floor, West St. Paul Fire Chief Ryan Yackel said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Fire Commissioner’s office estimates it caused $350,000 damage to the home and another $75,000 to the contents.
