Firefighters battle overnight blazes

Firefighters were busy overnight with two serious blazes – one in Charleswood and one in The Maples.

Just before midnight, firefighters were called to 87 Wexford St. for a working fire that began in the fireplace and spread to the walls, attic and roof. There were no injuries, but damage to the one-storey home totalled $150,000.

Then, at about 4 a.m., firefighters were called to a fully-involved fire at 155 Blechner Dr. The one-storey home was very badly damaged to the tune of $350,000. The cause is under investigation.
