Fire in Linden Woods under investigation

  • Print

Two elderly people were treated on the scene of a midday fire on Victor Lewis Drive today but there were no serious injuries.

"They were shaken up more than anything," said District Chief Myles Fitzhenry.

The cause of the main-floor blaze in a condominium building is still under investigation but Fitzhenry said the timing may have contributed to the lack of injuries because most people were at work. Eighteen units in the 100 block of Victor Lewis were evacuated but most of them were empty.

"We didn't know that so we had to make sure," he said. "It was mostly contained to one suite with a little damage in the hallway and second and third floors," he said.

Indeed, the unit in question had a couple of broken windows and the walls inside were blackened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fitzhenry said it's too early to peg the damage estimate.
