First-degree murder charges laid in Johnny G slaying

Winnipeg police have confirmed that two people have been arrested in the wake of last month’s slaying at Johnny G’s Main Street restaurant in February.

Police spokesman Const. Eric Hofley said Akech Dut Ajak, 22, has been charged with first-degree murder. Ajak was arrested on Wednesday.

Hofley said a 15-year-old boy has also been arrested in connection with the homicide. Investigators had to travel to Calgary to arrest him.

William Edward Moar, 24, died from a single gunshot wound on Feb. 15.

People who were in the bar at the time said a man dressed in black entered the bar at about 2 a.m., and fired a shot at Moar while he was returning to his table.

The gunman missed Moar with the first shot, but hit him with the second.

Police said at the time Moar was known to them and he had gang ties.

Anyone with any information is being asked to call investigators at 204-986-6508 or CrimeStoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
