The North Division-leading Winnipeg Goldeyes won their fourth straight game on Friday night, defeating the Gary SouthShore RailCats 6-1 at Shaw Park.
A crowd of 5,095 took in a quick 2 1/2-hour game.
The Goldeyes (10-3) and the RailCats (6-8) will meet again tonight at 6 p.m. with lefty Zach Baldwin expected to start after being added to the Fish roster today. The third game is on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Winnipeg lefty Fabian Williamson picked up the win, allowing four hits, one run and striking out five. Gary pitchers walked eight Goldeyes, and the loss went to starter Kyle Wilson, who walked six while striking out three.
Held to just one hit the first four innings, the Goldeyes scored six runs in the fifth.
The trouble started for Gary when Wilson gave up a single to Luis Alen and then walked Amos Ramon and Ridge Carpenter. After shortstop David Narodowski flied out, the Goldeyes sent batters to the plate with the bases loaded five times — plating four runs. Right-fielder Dan Barbero capped the outburst with a two-run single.
Gary scored its run in the seventh inning on an RBI single by catcher Ryan Babineau,
"Guys are waiting for opportunities to play and while other guys are trying to (find) their feel, the bench has got to step up, " said Goldeyes veteran Chris Roberson, who scored a run and had an RBI. "That pushes everyone, for sure."
