Five accused in Dauphin break-and-enter ring

A failed Sunday evening robbery has led RCMP in Dauphin to break up a break-and-enter ring.

Three people are in custody and charges are pending against two others.

RCMP said the break in the case occurred Sunday night when a man and a woman threatened another couple with a crowbar and demanded money from them.

However, a scuffle ensued and the robber with the crowbar was disarmed and he and his accomplice fled.

The attack was reported to the local RCMP detachment Monday morning and a suspect was in custody late in the afternoon.

Police said the ongoing investigation linked the suspect to a number of recent break-ins within Dauphin and the discovery of a quantity of stolen property.

Four more people were arrested Tuesday, including the female suspect from the Sunday night confrontation.

Another search warrant was executed Tuesday night at a local residence and police recovered $5,000 worth of stolen property.

Three people have been charged with a variety of robbery-related offences. Two others were released on a promise to appear in court and charges are pending against them.

Police said they are reviewing recent reports of stolen property to see if there is a match with the recovered items, which will be returned to their owners.
