Fleeing thief throws chemical at Polo Park security

A Polo Park security guard was taken to hospital after a thief brandished a knife and threw a chemical at the guard.

Just before 11 a.m., two guards tried to stop a man as he fled the mall with merchandise. As the man arrived at an awaiting car, he threw or sprayed a chemical on one guard and produced a knife.

The guard was taken to hospital in stable condition with injuries to his upper body.

The suspect fled the mall in a stolen car, a blue, 2006 Chevrolet Optra bearing the licence plate GCP 273

Police are looking for a white man, between 26 and 30 years old, approximately 6-feet tall with short, dark hair.

Anyone who has any information about the suspect or the car should call police at 986-2839 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
