FLIN FLON — Flin Flon School Division is in shock after a support staffer was charged with three counts of sex with a minor.

The Mounties arrested Ruth Betts Community School parent-child co-ordinator Kristina Richelle Lies Tuesday and charged her with sexual assault, sexual interference, and sexual exploitation with a teenaged boy.

RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said that police began an investigation Aug. 26 after being "contacted over concerns expressed that a teenage youth may have been sexually assaulted by an employee at a Flin Flon school."

"She’s support staff, not a classroom teacher" who has worked for the division for three years on contract, superintendent Blaine Veitch said in an interview in his office next door to Ruth Betts.

The school is kindergarten to Grade 8.

Veitch said that he does not know the name of the victim, and police have told him there is no need for the division to offer support or intervention to any student.

"Those interventions are being put in place, in the community," he said.

The Mounties called Veitch late this morning, shortly before issuing a news release on the charges that Lies faces. Veitch suspended her with pay pending her next court appearance in November.
