Folklorama visitors dropped to 405,000

They sang, they danced and served fantastic food. On Saturday, Folklorama wrapped up for another year of world-wide entertainment, with the number of visitors down from the year before.

Preliminary visitor numbers show fewer people visited the festival than in 2011, which Folklorama said is probably because they had two fewer pavilions participate than the year before.

Preliminary numbers show an estimated 405,000 people visited the 43 pavilions this year, down from the 45 pavilions in 2011. There were 432,000 visitors last year, according to the Folklorama website.

"With the Olympic coverage during week one of Folklorama and the beautiful weather we experienced, we were very conservative in our expectations for this year," said Rayleen De Luca, Folklorama president, in a release.

The two-week festival showcased cultures from around the globe and attracted performing groups from Chile, Mexico, Jamaica, and Sweden, to name a few.

Folklorama will be back next year from Aug. 4 to 17.
