Former NDP MP and provincial cabinet minister Judy Wasylycia-Leis will run for mayor of Winnipeg this October, it was announced Sunday.

Wasylycia-Leis posted on her twitter feed this morning that she will register her mayoral campaign at city hall this afternoon. She will talk to the media after that.

Wasylycia-Leis lost to current Mayor Sam Katz in 2011. Katz has not yet said whether he will seek re-election.

Other registered candidates for mayor are Coun. Paula Havixbeck, lawyer and former councillor Gord Steeves, lawyer Brian Bowman, university administrator Robert-Falcon Ouellette, funeral-home operator Mike Vogiatzakis and exotic-dancer booking-agent Michel Fillion.

The election will be held Oct. 22.
