Former Winnipeg police chief David Cassels has endorsed Judy Wasylycia-Leis as the next mayor of Winnipeg.
In a statement released this afternoon, Cassels said Winnipeg is overdue for a real crime prevention plan, including more foot patrols in troubled neighbourhoods and poverty reduction.
"Judy understands that to start making neighbourhoods safer, you actually have to start preventing crime from happening in the first place," Cassels said.
Winnipeg’s police union has backed Mayor Sam Katz’s plan to hire 58 more police officers in a battle over which candidate has the best crime-fighting plan.
