Fort Whyte byelection to be held on Sept. 4

A byelection for the provincial constituency of Fort Whyte has been called for Sept. 4, Premier Selinger announced today.

The constituency seat has been vacant since July 30 following the resignation of Manitoba’s former Progressive Conservative leader Hugh McFadyen, who  held the seat since 2007. Manitoba’s new PC leader Brian Pallister is expected to run for the seat.

The byelection will be held Sept. 4 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and nominations in the constituency will officially close on Aug. 20. Advance polls will be open from Aug. 25 to Sept. 1.
