The remains of a man's body were pulled from the Red River Saturday.

WINNIPEG- A body found floating in the Red River on Saturday may have had its legs bound, but foul play is not suspected, police said on Sunday.

Boaters on the Red River discovered what looked like a jacket or a bundle of clothes floating in the river, near Henderson Highway and Valhalla Drive, around 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

Suspecting the worst, the boaters called emergency personnel, who recovered the body of a male.

A number of observers have described the body as having its legs bound, possibly with duct tape. Police spokesman Const. Jason Michalyshen acknowledged the witness reports, but was not able to confirm on Sunday morning.

Either way, foul play is not suspected in the man’s death, Michalyshen said, though final confirmation will wait until the autopsy is completed.

The body had probably not been in the water for "a significant period of time," Michalyshen said.

Police have identified the body as that of a 50-year-old man, and are currently informing his family.
