Homicide victim was "well-respected, well-liked": family

Family members of a man found dead in an Elmwood park early Friday morning said today the father of three was a "well-respected, well-liked individual" with no enemies or involvement in illegal activity.

Earlier today, police identified the victims of two separate homicides that occurred early Friday.

Corey Berry’s body was found at about 5 a.m. in an Elmwood park in the 300 block of Henderson Highway. Police have not said how Berry died. In a statement, family members said Berry was "assaulted and left for dead" while on his way home from a late evening walk, and later found by a concerned family member who searched the walking route.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, and no arrests have been made.

In their statement, family members said Berry was "an honest, hardworking and well-respected, well-liked individual" who left behind a wife of 27 years and three children. Berry was not involved an any gang or illegal activity, the statement said, and had no known enemies. The family asked for privacy while they grieved their loss.

A few hours earlier, Allan Frank Crockford, 42, was killed after he was shot in the 600 block of Maryland Street. Crockford was found by officers at about 12:10 a.m. after he was injured in the shooting.

Police are waiting for autopsy results, and said they have not made any arrests yet.
