Gail Asper works on her rap moves.

Gail Asper has a long list of tools on her belt: lawyer, philanthropist, national campaign chair for the Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and now, rapper.

On Thursday morning an unusual video of the prominent Winnipegger began circulating on Facebook and Twitter. In the nearly minute-long clip, Asper stands on the steps of the Manitoba legislature and busts out a rap she says she penned herself.

No, Gail isn’t starting a new career. She’s taking part in VoteAnyWay, a project encouraging young people to vote in the October 4 provincial election.

University of Manitoba students have recruited the likes of Asper, DJ Ace Burpee and children's entertainer Fred Penner to make a video pitch to Manitoba’s 18- to 29-year-old crowd to get out and vote.

While a Juno may not be on the horizon for Asper, she gives a spirited performance.

You can see the full video here on the VoteAnyWay Facebook page.
