City fire crews were kept on the run extinquishing a string of fires in garbage bins and a garage fire in the inner city and the Weston area overnight.
Crews were dispatched just before 7 a.m. to the garage fire in the 700 block of Toronto Avenue.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread but the garage was destroyed. The damage is estimated at $22,000. The fire department said it is being investigated as a suspected arson.
There were close to half a dozen other fires overnight.
Just after 4:30 a.m. crews responded to a call about a mattress on fire in a backyard in the 1100 block of Downing Street. When they arrived, they found a smoldering mattress and it was doused.
Then in the Weston area just before 4 a.m., crews were called to a boat on fire. They arrived at the 1300 block of Winnipeg Avenue West to find the fire in a boat stored on a trailer. There is no damage estimate.
Just after 3 a.m. crews were dispatched first to a garbage bin fine in the Weston area again, this time on Logan at Route 90.
Also just after 3 a.m. crews were dispatched to a garage fire in the 1300 block of Alexander Avenue.
The string of fires drew more attention than normal because of suspected arson that turned into a major fire last weekend. The fire on Home Street started outside one garage in the 500 block. It gutted three garages, destroyed two cars and spread to three homes, causing a total of $300,000.
