Garden City, Red River community centres receive reno cash

WINNIPEG -Two community centres in Winnipeg found out today they will receive a total of more than $130,000 in federal cash for renovations.

The Garden City Community Centre will receive $85,926 from the federal government’s Recreational Infrastructure Canada program, while the Red River Community Centre will get $53,456 from the same program.

The money will help the Garden City Community Centre replace the soccer field turf, upgrade the electrical system and install air conditioning.

The Red River Community Centre will replace a baseball backstop and put asphalt on two outdoor rinks.

The two-year federal program will see the government spend $500 million on recreational facilities across the country. More than $160 million of the money is earmarked for the four western provinces.

Never mind the basketball backstop, get a couple of new nets for the rinks to go along with the asphalt. If the basketball net is where I think it is, on the west side of the club, the ground there needs asphalt more than a new backstop!
