Gimli film festival sets attendance record

WINNIPEG - The Gimli Film Festival set a record for attendance with its 10th edition last week.
The indoor theatre attendance jumped from 2,070 in 2009 to 3,058 during the five-day fest, an impressive increase of 48 per cent according to the fest’s executive director Kristine Sigurdson.

The attendance of the free beach screenings was estimated at 2,000 fest-goers, all the more impressive when you factor in the Thursday night screening of Amreeka was cancelled due to rain.
The beach screening saw its best attendance on Saturday night with the screening of Passenger Side and Neil Young Trunk Show, a double bill which attracted some 800 attendees to the unique lakefront screen on the shores of Lake Winnipeg.
The Gimli Film Festival returns next year from July 20-24.
