The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed heavy-hitting infielder Jacob Blackwood for the 2014 season.
Blackwood hit .331 with 31 HR and 86 RBI in 99 games with the Kansas City T-Bones in 2010 and was third in league batting average that season.
He subsequently was signed by the San Diego Padres organization and spent the last two sasons with their AA affiliate in San Antonio, where he hit .259 with 7 HR and 61 RBI in 126 games last season. He was also the starting third baseman for the South Division in the Texas League all-star game.
"Jake is a big addition to our ball club," Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said in a statement on Wednesday. "He’s the type of infielder that provides a big impact bat to our lineup. He’s been an impactful player in our league before and we’re hopeful he can be an impact guy for the Goldeyes in 2014."
The Goldeyes now have six pitchers and six position players signed for the 2014 season.
