Goldeyes beat Sioux Falls 7-2 for fourth straight win

  • Print

The Winnipeg Goldeyes brought their red-hot bullpen to Sioux Falls, S.D. Friday, with the hopes of gaining ground in the American Association wild card race.

Pitcher Matt Jackson didn't throw a complete game like his teammates did in the previous three outings — all shutout wins — but his seven strong innings on the mound were enough to give the Fish a 7-2 win over the Sioux Falls Canaries. Jackson gave up the Canaries' two runs on six hits, and is now 3-0 with a 3.31 ERA.

He got help from the Goldeyes' bats, as the Fish had 10 hits over the course of the game. Luis Alen went two-for-three at the plate — including a solo home run in the second inning — and Fehlandt Lentini had two hits and three RBIs.

The bad news: The Goldeyes remain 1½ games back of the Gary SouthShore Railcats for the top spot in the wild card race, as the Railcats beat the St. Paul Saints 12-6. The Fish have nine games remaining.

The Goldeyes and Canaries play again Saturday night in Sioux Falls.
