Goldeyes bring back 16
WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Goldeyes has picked up the option on the contracts of 16 players for the 2010 season, the Northern League team announced Thursday.
The players include pitchers Zach Baldwin, Andrew Cruse, Derek Feldkamp, Mark Michael, Aaron Odom, Jordan Stewart, Ian Thomas and Ace Walker; catcher Jeff DeSmidt; infielders Josh Asanovich, Juan Diaz, Wes Long, Mark Minicozzi and outfielders Dee Brown, Kurt Crowell and Cory Patton.
The group includes 13 players who were on the 22-player active roster at the conclusion of the 2009 season. Odom was on the disabled list while Feldkamp and Long were on the inactive list.
Options were not exercised for pitchers Bear Bay, Matt Davis, Chris Homer, Ben Pfinsgraff and Bill Pulsipher, catcher Dustin Richardson, infielders Cody Ehlers, Adam Frost, Vince Harrison and Brent Metheny and outfielder Kevin West.
Bay, Davis and Metheny were traded to Joliet JackHammers on Sept. 22. Frost was picked up by the Kansas City Royals on Oct. 19.
Homer and Ehlers were taken on Oct. 22 by the Northern League expansion team Lake County Fielders in the expansion draft.
Richardson and Harrison played out their options.
