Goldeyes hook final catch

  • Print

The Winnipeg Goldeyes put the finishing touches on the 2013 roster Monday, adding a new left-handed pitcher Fish manager Rick Forney called "the final piece of the puzzle."

The newest pitcher, 25-year-old Edgar Osuna, was once an encouraging prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization, even making five starts in the AAA-level Omaha of the Pacific Coast League, but he found himself looking for work this season after losing all of 2012 to "Tommy John" elbow surgery.

Osuna has been back in the game since, pitching in the Mexican Winter League this offseason. He went 4-2 with 3.31 ERA in 11 starts.

In a notable first, Osuna also becomes the first Mexican-born player to be signed by the Goldeyes. He signed with the Atlanta Braves as an 18 year old and was selected by the Royals in the 2009 MLB Rule 5 draft.

The Goldeyes now have 27 players ready to go for training camp, which opens on May 4, including 15 pitchers and 12 position players.
