Goldeyes land one-time Tiger

  • Print

The Winnipeg Goldeyes have added a red-hot new catcher to the roster.

Jordan Guida, 24, comes to the Fish this season after signing last year with the Detroit Tigers. In five games with the Tigers' rookie team in the Gulf Coast League, he hit .467.

In college at Tennessee Wesleyan, Guida led the Bulldogs to the NAIA World Series title by hitting an NAIA-record seven home runs in the tournament, including three dingers and six RBI in the semifinal game against LSU-Shreveport. He hit .440 in Tennessee Wesleyan’s six games and had 13 RBI. On the season, the product of Glendale, Ariz. hit .330 with 12 home runs and 50 RBI.

The Goldeyes now have 25 players signed for the 2013 season, including 14 pitchers and 11 position players. American Association teams open training camp on May 4 and, under league rules, can have 28 players on their roster during training camp.
