Goldeyes need good start from Baldwin

Zach Baldwin will get just his second start for the Winnipeg Goldeyes in the 2012 American Association baseball season tonight at 7 when the Goldeyes (45-31) host the Wichita Wingnuts (45-32) for the first game in a three-game set at Shaw Park.
The 6-foot-5, 225 pound Baldwin has been working mostly as a reliever this season but the Goldeyes need a good start out of the big lefty since the team never did settle on a designated fifth starter this season. Baldwin has a 1-1 record and a 6.62 ERA with one start and 29 relief appearances so far this season.
In his fifth straight season with the Goldeyes, Baldwin's longest appearance in a game this season was his only start back on June 2 against the Gary SouthShore RailCats when pitched two innings and took the loss allowing two runs on three hits.
"We only need a spot start maybe one more time after this one so we'll see (how it goes today for Baldwin)," said Goldeyes manager Rick Forney, referring to the team's regular rotation of the other four starting pitchers Ace Walker, Chris Salamida, Matt Rusch and Todd Privett and the fact there is just 23 games left in the regular season.
Wichita is leading the Central division. The Goldeyes, on a three-game winning streak, are four games back of North division-leader Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks, who have lost two straight. Winnipeg has a four-game lead for the wild-card playoff berth over the Kansas City T-Bones and the St. Paul Saints.
Reliever Brian Beuning is expected to rejoin the Goldeyes today and remain with the team for the rest of the season.
Shortstop Jose Duran is not expected to play today as he recovers from a tweaked hamstring suffered in Tuesday's 8-2 win over the Sioux Falls Pheasants.
