Goldeyes place Hawkins on waivers

The Winnipeg Goldeyes placed left-handed pitcher Rich Hawkins, 22, on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of granting him his release on Sunday.

Hawkins, a rookie player who had been working as a starting pitcher, had a 3-1 record with a 7.82 ERA in eight starts with the Goldeyes this season.

The Goldeyes, which have 20 players on their active roster including 11 pitchers and nine position players, will host Sioux Falls today at 1:30 p.m. at Shaw Park.

The Goldeyes are expected to start lefty Todd Privett (4-4, 3.61) while Sioux Falls is expected to start Mitchell Clegg (5-4, 5.25).
