Goldeyes ready for championship action

WICHITA, Kansas — The Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball team is one win away from its first league championship since its inaugural season in 1994.

It could happen here Friday night at Wichita's Lawrence-Dumont Stadium as the Goldeyes will meet the Wichita Wingnuts in the third game of the best-of-five American Association final series.

Starting pitchers are expected to be Winnipeg's Matt Rusch, who led the league with a 2.40 ERA, and Wichita's Derek Blacksher, who also played for Wichita last season and has a 14-3 career record at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Follow the Goldeyes in the Winnipeg Free Press today through the weekend. We'll be tweeting from Wichita and providing coverage of all the action between the Goldeyes and the Wingnuts.
