Goldeyes sign Twins prospect

Infielder Steve Singleton, who played the last six seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization, has been signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the 2012 American Association season.

Singleton, 26, played for the Twins AAA affliate in Rochester last season where he batted.252 and recorded 17 RBI with three home runs in 41 games.

"He’s a guy with a lot of experience. He should bring a high level of play to our team," Goldeyes manager Rick Forney said in a media release. "He switch hits and has the ability to play all over the infield. He has really good career numbers and a lot of doubles in his history. He has the ability to not only move around defensively, but he has the ability to hit in multiple positions throughout the line up."

Singleton, a product of San Franciso, Calif., has played in 654 professional games with a .281 batting average and a .327 on-base percentage. He was selected by the Twins in the 11th round (336 overall) of the 2006 Major League Baseball amateur draft out of the University of San Diego.

Singleton is the sixth player to be signed by Forney for the 2012 season including pitcher Matthew Rusch and position players Amos Ramon, Asif Shah, Price Kendall, Ridge Carpenter.
