Goldeyes sign trio of rookies

Three rookie players have been signed by the Winnipeg Goldeyes, the American Association baseball team announced on Friday.

Manager Rick Forney has inked deals with pitchers Chris Kaminski and Barrett Phillips and infielder/outfielder Dan Barbero as well as signed right-handed pitcher Craig James was acquired earlier this month in the trade with the Grand Prairie AirHogs for Brian Myrow.

Kaminski, 23, finished his NCAA career with Jacksonville University last summer and is tied for the school’s all-time saves record with 16.

Phillips, 21, is a southpaw who played four games last season with the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.

Barbero, 29, is a second-season rookie after completing his first professional season last summer in the Can-Am League with the Brockton Rox, Quebec Les Capitales and NYSL Federals, he hit .309 with five home runs and 36 RBI in 68 games.

The Goldeyes now have 12 players signed for the 2012 season, including five pitchers and seven position players.
