Goldeyes trade Rusch for Les Capitales' Benefield

The Winnipeg Goldeyes said "bienvenue" to one pitcher and "adieu" to another on Tuesday as the Goldeyes completed a trade with the Quebec Les Capitales of the Can-Am League.

The Goldeyes acquired right-handed pitcher Matthew Rusch from the Quebec team in exchange for the rights to right-handed pitcher Chad Benefield who had played with the Goldeyes in the 2011 American Association season.

Rusch, 28, posted a 17-6 record and a 3.14 ERA over the past two seasons in 38 games with Quebec including 29 starts. He finished last season with the Portland SeaDogs, an AA team in the Boston Red Sox organization, where he recorded a 5.06 ERA in four starts.

Benefield, who began his professional career with Winnipeg in 2010, had a 3-6 record in 61 games over the past two seasons and a 4.38 ERA out of the bullpen.
