Goldeyes trade for power hitter Brandon Sing

WINNIPEG Goldeyes' manager Rick Forney has traded two of his go-to pitchers from last season plus inconsistent veteran infielder Antoin Gray and catcher Jeff DeSmidt in a pair of related deals to land the rights to power-hitting infielder Brandon Sing.

The Goldeyes dealt pitcher Brandon Kintzler and DeSmidt to St. Paul of the American Association and also sent Gray — primarily a second baseman — and pitcher Aaron Jackson to Pensacola.

In return, the Fish have obtained Sing from the Pelicans, for whom the 28-year-old hit .278 and with a league-leading 22 home runs and 86 runs batted in last season. He's a 6-foot-5, 230-pounder and is slated to play at first base and has played more than 350 games at the AAA and AA levels.

St. Paul concluded the three-team trade by sending infielder Jimmy Mojica to Pensacola.

Training camp opens May 1 at Canwest Park.
