Gorbachev gets key to the city

Mayor Sam Katz presented the keys to the city this evening to former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and motivational speaker Spencer West.

Both Gorbachev and West are in Winnipeg to attend the We Day gala at the MTS Centre on Tuesday, a day of inspirational speakers intended to motivate youth to seek positive change in their communities and around the world.

Gorbachev is the former president of the Soviet Union and a Nobel Peace Laureate.

West is a Toronto man who climbed to the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania even though his legs were amputated below the pelvis when he was five years old due to a genetic disorder.
