Great harvest for Manitoba's farmers

Good crops and even better commodity prices are giving Manitoba’s farmers a great harvest, the province’s top farm group said today.

Keystone Agricultural Producers president Doug Chorney also said his group’s research suggests that, for every $1 a grain farmer earns, nearly $14 is put back into the economy.

At a press conference at The Forks today, Chorney displayed a hopper full of spring wheat, which yielded over 50 bushels per acre at a record price of nearly $9 a bushel. That yield is in sharp contrast to the drought gripping much of the United States, and last year’s flooding that stymied Manitoba’s agricultural industry.
